During the month of June, Colgate-Palmolive Company has teamed up with the American Dental Association for Oral Health Month.
Oral Health Month is all about promoting the benefits of good dental hygiene for children and families. During the first month of summer vacation, parents have more opportunity to establish and maintain a good oral hygiene routine with their children. Although Oral Health Month originated as a promotional campaign for Colgate Company, it is still a good time to learn more about taking care of your teeth and gums and develop good habits for your family’s oral healthcare.
Basics Vital to Oral Health Care:
- Brush teeth morning and night or after each meal with fluoride toothpaste
- Floss between teeth twice per day
- Use fluoride mouthwash for cavity prevention
- Cut down on consumption of sugary foods and beverages
- Avoid using tobacco products which can cause heart disease, bad breath, teeth staining, and cancer
- Visit the dentist at least twice per year for cleanings and exams
Harmful bacteria in your mouth feed on food particles trapped between your teeth. These bacteria can cause bad breath, tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more severe dental health problems. Prevention is the best way to save your teeth and avoid major and costly dental procedures.
Using the hashtag #TimeToSmile, families are encouraged to share photos of themselves brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist on various social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Colgate has pledged to donate $1 for every online post using the hashtag #TimeToSmile to Give Kids a Smile. To date, over 6 million underserved children have received free oral health services through the Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) program.
