The procedure for placing inlays and onlays is similar to the placement of a dental crown. However, when having an inlay or an onlay placed, much less of the original tooth will be removed. Dental crown placement involves major reshaping of your tooth’s natural structure, so having an inlay or onlay placed is a far more conservative treatment option.
During your first appointment, your dentist will administer a local anesthetic to effectively numb the area so the decay can be removed without causing you any pain. Existing decay needs to be removed to prevent the infection from spreading and causing more damage.
Thanks to CEREC technology, we are able to make the inlay and onlay on the same day. Inlays and onlays are made out of porcelain.
Once the inlay or onlay has been made, we will affix it to your tooth. You can be confident in the inlay or onlay, as these are sturdy and built to last for many years.
